This article provides the instructions for Vote Rev Action Fund's recommended data sheet for volunteers doing high traffic on-the-spot vote tripling, as well as a link to a template google form where canvassers can input their data after a high traffic on-the-spot vote tripling shift.  The data sheet in full is downloadable at the bottom of this article.

Instructions

Use the table below to keep track of your interactions with people as you ask them to send reminders to their friends instantly about voting.

Each row represents one interaction with one person.  If you talk to more than one person at the same time (say, a couple, or a group of 3 or four friends), each person would get their own row.

NO: Put a mark in this column if you asked the person to remind their friends to vote and they said no.

YES - NOT in front of me: Put a mark in this column if the person credibly says they will remind their friends and family to vote, but you don’t see them remind people in front of you

YES -  in front of me: Put a mark in this column if the person agrees to remind their friends and family to vote, AND you see them send reminders in front of you.

# of reminders seen: Use this column to write the number of reminders someone says.  Most people will remind three people and most of your answers here will be “3,” but some people will send a reminder to a family group chat with four or five people, and others might only be able to think of one of two people to remind.

Notes on interaction: Use this column to note anything interesting about the interaction.

FAQ

Q. What counts as a reminder?

  1. Generally any sort of one-to-one or one-to-few interaction counts as a reminder: phone calls, texts, texts to group chats, etc.  We tend not to think of a twitter, facebook, or other generally social media post as a reminder, as that is impersonal and not as powerful as a personal reminder.  However, if someone is going to tag specific people on social media, that counts as a specific reminder.

Q. What should I do with this data?

  1. Check with the person in charge of your shift.  Frequently there will be a corresponding online form for you to enter your data after your shift.

The data from this form can then easily be entered into a google form, which can allow program managers to easily aggregate results and look for trends among canvassers or locations. You can find our template google form here
